Team Sri Lanka Presented Ahead of 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026
Colombo, 11 September 2026 – The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOC Sri Lanka) officially presented Team Sri Lanka for the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 at a special press conference held on 09 September 2026 at the Duncan White Auditorium, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The press conference was attended by the Hon. Sunil Kumara Gamage, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. A. H. M. U. Aruna Bandara, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. S. Achchuthan, Director General of Sports, Mr. Asanga Seneviratne, President of NOC Sri Lanka, Mr. Rifdy Fahmy, Secretary General of NOC Sri Lanka, together with other dignitaries and officials of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and NOC Sri Lanka. The event provided an overview of Team Sri Lanka, including the composition of the national contingent, participating sports, competition schedules and key arrangements for the delegation ahead of the Games.
Team Sri Lanka will travel to Japan with a contingent of 156 athletes, comprising 100 male and 56 female athletes, who will compete across 25 sports disciplines.
The Sri Lankan contingent will compete across Aquatics – Swimming and Diving, Archery, Artistic Gymnastics, Judo, Rowing, Rugby Sevens, Table Tennis, Squash, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Basketball 3x3, Wushu, Kabaddi, Beach Volleyball, Athletics, Boxing, Karate, Sailing, Taekwondo, Surfing, Badminton, Cricket, Golf, Modern Pentathlon and Hockey.
The delegation will be led by Chef de Mission Group Captain Eranda Geeganage, with Deputy Chef de Mission Mr. Ashok Jeyakumar supporting the leadership and coordination of Team Sri Lanka throughout the Games. Together with the wider management and support team, they will oversee the operational, administrative and athlete-support requirements of the Sri Lankan delegation during its participation in Aichi-Nagoya.
In relation to accommodation arrangements for participating delegations, NOC Sri Lanka is aware of the ongoing capacity arrangements being addressed by the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Games organisers. NOC Sri Lanka remains in close communication with the relevant parties and is closely monitoring the arrangements for Team Sri Lanka. The wellbeing, comfort and preparedness of the team remain a priority, and NOC Sri Lanka is confident that the necessary arrangements will be in place ahead of the Games.
The Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games will officially commence with the Opening Ceremony on 19 September 2026 and conclude on 4 October 2026. Sri Lankan athletes will begin their competition programme ahead of the Opening Ceremony, with Modern Pentathlon scheduled to begin on the 16th September, followed by competitions across the remaining disciplines throughout the Games period. As Team Sri Lanka's preparations continue, NOC Sri Lanka is pleased to announce Isiwaruna De Silva and Nuyara Nisindi Fernando as the Flag Bearers of Team Sri Lanka for the Opening Ceremony of the 20th Asian Games.
Isiwaruna De Silva is a Sri Lankan Modern Pentathlete who has proudly represented Sri Lanka at national and international level. He has competed at major international events, including the Asian Championships and the UIPM World Pentathlon World Cup, and achieved notable top-10 finishes at the UIPM Biathle and Triathle World Championship. Joining him as Flag Bearer will be Nuyara Nisindi Fernando, a talented Sri Lankan Artistic Gymnast who has proudly represented Sri Lanka at both national and international levels. She has gained valuable international experience competing at the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships, Commonwealth Gymnastics Championships and the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, as well as the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games earlier this year.
A key highlight of the press conference was the unveiling of the official Team Sri Lanka Team Attire, by MAS Holdings, the Official Team Attire Partner of Team Sri Lanka for the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026. The Official Opening Ceremony Attire, by LOVI Ceylon, the Official Opening Ceremony Attire Partner of Team Sri Lanka for the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, was also unveiled at the event.
Team Sri Lanka now enters the final stage of its preparations for Aichi-Nagoya 2026, united by a shared commitment to represent the nation with courage, integrity, discipline and excellence. NOC Sri Lanka extends its very best wishes to all athletes, coaches, officials and members of the delegation as they undertake the honour and responsibility of representing Sri Lanka at the 20th Asian Games.

The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOC SL) was inaugurated on 8th April 1937 at a meeting of representatives of Athletic, Swimming and Boxing Associations. As resolved on this day, the first meeting of the Ceylon Olympic and Empire Games Association was held on 30th April 1937.
