PRESS RELEASE: Team Sri Lanka Contingent Update for Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

Updated Date: 23rd July, 2026

Glasgow, 23 July 2026 – The Commonwealth Games Association of Sri Lanka (CGA Sri Lanka) wish to provide an update regarding the Team Sri Lanka contingent for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, following the athlete list previously announced on 17 July 2026.

There have been two updates to the participation of athletes included in the original list.

1. Tiana Sumanasekera - Artistic Gymnastics

Tiana Sumanasekera, who was originally entered to compete in the Women's All-Around Artistic Gymnastics event, has sustained a shoulder injury.

The National Gymnastics Association of Sri Lanka has informed the Commonwealth Games Association of Sri Lanka of the injury and, following medical advice and in consideration of her condition, Tiana will compete only in the Women's Balance Beam event and withdraw from participation in the remaining Artistic Gymnastics apparatus.

The decision has been taken with due consideration to the athlete's health and wellbeing.

2. Kalhara Idupa - Athletics

Kalhara Idupa Silva, who was originally entered for the Men's 4x400m Relay and Mixed 4x400m Relay, will not participate in the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games due to an injury.

Following a medical assessment by the Institute of Sports Medicine, Sri Lanka, it has been determined that Kalhara is not medically fit to compete at the Games. He has been advised to undergo the necessary rehabilitation and recovery programme.

This decision has been taken in the best interests of the athlete's health, safety and long-term sporting career.

The Commonwealth Games Association of Sri Lanka wish Tiana Sumanasekera the very best for her participation in Glasgow and Kalhara Idupa Silva a safe and successful recovery.

Team Sri Lanka remains committed to prioritising the health, safety and wellbeing of all athletes as they prepare to represent Sri Lanka at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
